It is the jacket or overall fabric construction that is responsible for the tightness of a flat hose. There are two basic jacket constructions that are of importance in this context. One is the twill weave and the other is the linen weave. While the linen weave can be found in the industrial sector, DIN fire hoses incorporate the twill weave.

The jacket consists of highly tear-resistant, round-woven polyester yarn and, depending on the type of hose, is twisted 2, 3 or 4 times in the warp (warp thread). While the warp thread is designed to provide abrasion resistance, the weft thread ensures that the jacket can withstand pressure. When it comes to DIN fire hoses, we are talking about pressures of up to 60 bar burst pressure. Special fabrics, e.g. for the OIl Favorit 100 mining hose, are engineered in such a way that they can even withstand pressures of up to 100 bar.

Its maximum permissible transverse and longitudinal elongation for the fabric is 3%. The standard color is natural white, however, it is of course possible to produce and weave the jacket in other colors (preferably red or black).

Apart from its internal further processing into the finished hose, the jacket blank can also be purchased as a ready-made sales product. Among other things, it can be used for bundling cables or wires, or the fabric can be adapted for use as a protective layer.
